KARACHI: Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited reported a profit before tax of PKR 37.1 billion for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, compared to PKR 46.1 billion in the corresponding period last year, reflecting the impact of declining interest rates.

The bank recorded revenue of PKR 53.6 billion, down 15% year-on-year. Despite the decline in revenue, total operating expenses decreased by 1%, demonstrating continued cost discipline alongside investments in people and infrastructure.

Standard Chartered maintained a cost-to-income ratio of 33%, among the lowest in Pakistan's banking industry. Its prudent risk management practices and strong recovery of previously impaired loans resulted in a net Expected Credit Loss (ECL) release of PKR 1.2 billion during the period.

The bank's balance sheet continued to expand, with total deposits reaching PKR 739 billion, an increase of PKR 88.7 billion or 14% compared to the beginning of the year. Current accounts accounted for 58% of its total deposit base.

On the lending side, net advances increased by PKR 31.5 billion, representing 15% growth since the start of the year, supported by strong expansion in corporate financing and mortgage lending. The bank also maintained its position in Pakistan's mortgage market through differentiated home financing solutions.

During the period, Standard Chartered strengthened its role in supporting Pakistan's access to international capital markets. The bank facilitated the country's successful return to international capital markets after a four-year hiatus through a USD 3.75 billion Eurobond issuance and a USD 250 million Panda Bond issuance.

The bank also continued investing in digital capabilities and infrastructure to enhance customer experience through innovative banking solutions.

For the nine-month period, Standard Chartered reported a Return on Equity (ROE) of 22.1% and maintained a Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 19.1%, reflecting its capital strength and capacity to support future growth.

Commenting on the results, Adil Salahuddin, CEO and Head of Coverage at Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited, said the third-quarter performance demonstrated the resilience of the bank's franchise, supported by disciplined execution, strong client relationships and continued balance sheet growth.

He highlighted the encouraging growth in deposits and advances as evidence of client confidence and increasing economic activity.

Salahuddin added that Pakistan's improving economic outlook presents significant opportunities for the bank to support local and international businesses in expanding sustainably and connecting with wider markets.

He noted that Standard Chartered's global network, combined with its deep local expertise, positions the bank to facilitate international business flows and contribute to Pakistan's next phase of economic growth.
