Oman to Launch National Payment Card to Boost Financial Inclusion and Reduce Dependence on Foreign Systems

Dubai: Oman’s banking sector is set to roll out a national payment card under the direct supervision of the Central Bank of Oman (CBO), marking a major milestone in the country’s financial and digital payments journey.

The initiative is designed to provide consumers and businesses with a secure, seamless, and convenient payment experience, while reducing the reliance on foreign payment solutions. The new card will be issued by local banks and licensed payment service providers, enabling users to conduct transactions safely and efficiently across online platforms and point-of-sale terminals within a unified national system.

Officials say the launch of the card represents a key step toward building a fully integrated national payment ecosystem, strengthening the resilience of Oman’s banking infrastructure, and supporting economic self-sufficiency in the payments sector.

By promoting wider financial inclusion and fostering smooth, accessible transactions, the program also aligns with Oman’s broader vision for sustainable economic growth and digital innovation.
