  • Built-in biometric authentication and tokenised card data to help reduce drop-offs and fraud
  • Designed for sectors like travel & tourism, SaaS exporters, and global ecommerce brands
  • Unlocks native checkout for high-intent international buyers in the US, UK, UAE, Canada, and Europe

Bangalore, September 23, 2025: Further to its commitment to empower Indian businesses to seamlessly go global, Payments company, Cashfree Payments today announced that it has enabled Apple Pay support on international cards. Businesses using Cashfree’s international payment gateway (IPG) will now be able to offer Apple Pay as a checkout option to their international customers, and efficiently tap into high-value global markets such as the US, UK, Canada, UAE, and most of Europe. This move not only reduces payment friction but also unlocks borderless e-commerce at scale, enabling merchants to convert global demand into revenue. The launch comes at a particularly opportune moment, with the festive season around the corner when global demand for Indian cultural, artisanal, and heritage products peaks. For the diaspora and international buyers alike, it opens new doors to access Indian offerings more seamlessly, while enabling merchants to capture this seasonal surge with greater success.

Nitin Pulyani, Head of Product at Cashfree Payments, said, “At Cashfree Payments, we believe the future of cross-border commerce is about creating better and more intuitive payment experiences. We’ve consistently built solutions that help Indian businesses scale with confidence, and now with Apple Pay’s integration, we are thrilled to redefine how global consumers connect with Indian merchants. By offering a payment flow that feels native to international buyers, we’re bringing them even closer to Indian merchants, while improving trust, reducing drop-offs, and making global commerce truly seamless. Apple Pay brings together ease, security, and conversion performance, and we’re proud to be one of the firsts in India to deliver that to global-facing merchants.”

According to Worldpay’s Global Payments Report 2024, cards accounted for 53% of ecommerce transaction value in North America, and 43% in Europe. While card-based payments remain a default preference in many Western markets, especially when buyers seek speed, familiarity, and security, there has been no available robust infrastructure for Indian merchants to support for native wallet-based card flows. As a result, international customers have to complete their purchases through manual card entry flows, creating friction, higher drop-offs, and missed conversion opportunities for Indian merchants.

Cashfree’s Apple Pay integration will now change that by offering international buyers a fast and secure checkout, eliminating manual card entry and reducing drop-offs. This will translate to fewer hops, and upto 75% reduction in drop-offs for Indian exporters selling in high-intent global markets like US, UAE, and EU. The impact is particularly significant for merchant segments where card usage remains dominant and transaction failures are costly, such as travel & tourism, SaaS exporters, and global ecommerce brands. Currently, a majority of  failures in these segments stem from errors in manual entry of card details such as number, expiry details, CVV or OTP. With Apple Pay’s integration, Cashfree’s merchants will now be able to help global users eliminate these entirely by using biometric authentication and tokenised card data, allowing only verified  device owners to swiftly initiate the transaction, while also giving it an added layer of fraud prevention.

The feature is live for all merchants using Cashfree’s IPG and works natively on iOS devices via Safari and in-app. Existing merchants can enable Apple Pay instantly through their current checkout setup, as the support has been built directly into Cashfree’s IPG stack, benefiting them from the same dashboards, SDKs, and real-time reconciliation tools, with no additional integration effort.

Cashfree Payments had recently also announced the support of over 140 currencies on its international payment gateway, becoming the first Indian fintech to offer the widest range of currency acceptance for Indian businesses. These launches reinforce Cashfree’s commitment to double down on value-driven innovation in cross-border payments, with the fintech giant being one of the first entities to have been authorised by the RBI to operate as a payment aggregator for both domestic and cross-border payments (Import & Export).
