Dubai, UAE – October 2, 2024: In a landmark initiative aimed at empowering innovators and fostering creativity, the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) and the UAE Ministry of Economy have announced the launch of the Dubai Intellectual Property Hub (DIPH). The UAE’s first centralized platform for intellectual property (IP) and intangible assets (IA) was unveiled at the “IP2024: Glimpse on the Future of IP” event held at the Museum of the Future.
The launch was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UAE Ministry of Economy and DFF, in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy; H.E. Alia Abdulla Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship; H.E. Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for the Intellectual Property Rights Sector at the Ministry of Economy, and H.E. Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of DFF.
The new hub is designed to serve as a comprehensive, centralized resource for innovators, entrepreneurs, artists, researchers, academics, and startups across various sectors, including creative design, sustainability, health, education, and law. By integrating the Ministry of Economy’s IA registration feature, the DIPH will streamline the IP registration process and offer essential tools for securing and formalizing innovations.
Strengthening Dubai’s Position in Innovation and Creativity
H.E. Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri emphasized the UAE’s commitment to building a robust ecosystem that fosters innovation and supports the creative economy. “The UAE has established a comprehensive legislative and institutional framework that protects intellectual property rights across all sectors. These efforts are vital in achieving the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision, which aims to position the UAE among the top 10 destinations for talent and creativity over the next decade,” Al Marri said.
He further highlighted that the Dubai IP Hub, launched in partnership with the Dubai Future Foundation, represents a critical step in enhancing IP protection for the creative industries in Dubai and across the UAE. “This initiative provides the necessary tools and resources for entrepreneurs, creatives, and researchers to safeguard their innovations, contributing to a national economy increasingly driven by creativity and innovation,” he added.
Driving Growth Through Collaboration
H.E. Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of DFF, underlined the significance of the collaboration, stating: “This platform is part of our ongoing efforts to advance the UAE’s legislative framework, strengthen economic sectors, and create a dynamic R&D ecosystem. By providing essential tools for businesses to thrive, we aim to support their growth and global expansion.”
Belhoul also highlighted the hub’s seamless digital interface, which offers entrepreneurs and innovators a one-stop platform for accessing information, resources, and guidance on IP registration and protection. “Our goal is to make Dubai and the UAE a global leader in creativity and innovation by offering a trusted, comprehensive resource for IP protection,” Belhoul added.
