Algeria-based traveltech Völz raises $5 million in Series A round

Algiers, Algeria – December 2025: Algeria-based traveltech startup VOLZ has raised 600 million Algerian dinars (nearly $5 million) in a Series A funding round led by a consortium of private investors under Tell Group, with participation from Groupe GIBA – Babahoum Industrial Group Algeria, best known for its mineral water brand Guedila.

The funding was announced at the African Startup Conference, held in Algiers in December 2025, where VOLZ participated as a champion sponsor.

The deal marks two major milestones for Algeria’s startup ecosystem. It represents the largest funding round ever raised by an Algerian startup in local currency, and the first successful exit of the Algerian Startup Fund (ASF), established in October 2020. ASF achieved a return of more than 3.35x on its initial investment.

Founded in 2023 by Mohamed Abdelhadi Mezi and Hacene Seghier, VOLZ enables travellers to book flights in Algerian dinars, offering both online payments and cash-on-delivery options, while allowing users to compare multiple airlines on a single platform. The company reports over 1,000% growth within one year, driven by strong user adoption and trust.

VOLZ’s model addresses local market challenges through a hybrid service combining local currency payments, flexible checkout options, multi-airline booking, and premium customer support. Investors cited the startup’s execution capabilities and ability to digitise a traditionally fragmented travel market as key factors behind the investment.

Commenting on the raise, Mohamed Abdelhadi Mezi, CEO of VOLZ, said:
“This funding round marks a new milestone for VOLZ. It allows us to accelerate our mission: to empower Algerian travellers by making travel simpler, clearer, and more accessible. We thank ASF for its historic role in our beginnings and welcome our new investors with ambition and responsibility.”

The fresh capital will be used to launch new consumer and corporate travel products, deepen VOLZ’s footprint in Algeria, and support expansion across North and West Africa. The company is also preparing to roll out a corporate travel solution, aimed at helping businesses optimise and manage their travel operations.

With its latest raise, VOLZ aims to position itself as the go-to travel platform for the region, delivering a seamless and transparent experience from flight search to boarding.
